Everquest 2 Monk Overview - EQ2 Monk Overview

Everquest 2 Monk

Description

If you are looking for an indepth Templar Guide or other EQ2 class guide you can find them at Everquest 2 Class Guides.

The Monk. They are mostly melee damage. However, the monk is very capable of tanking in a bad situation. They have taunting abilities, as well as heals.

The monks melee abilities consist of the standard small damage strike, and the 30 second reuse high damage attack. Use of the high damage attack is good, but using it when the mob is near death would be careless and end up making you have to wait 30 seconds before you can reuse the attack.

The heals (at lower levels) heal for around 30-80% of your hp, and can actually cure various ailments. The downside to the heal is that they take 3 minutes to reuse.

Solo-Play

The monk is not the most capable soloer. Their damage per second (DPS) is not as good as some other classes.

The Heroic Opportunities seem to AE (area effect) all of the creatures in the encounter. Mind you the AE does small amounts of damage.

At level 7 you get your first AE (To all creatures in and out of the encounter) to damage all creatures near you.

The stances vary depending on your situation. For solo I believe you would benefit more from the DPS (Damage Per Second) stance named “Trainee's Blessing”. But this is based on purely anecdotal evidence.

Group-Play

The group play of the monk is a little bit different.

You have the capability of tanking lighter creatures. Heavy named creatures will probably eat you for lunch.

Using Intervene (reduces damage of target by 25%, making you absorb 50%) on your healer or main support class in the group will greatly increase the chances of survival.

Using Taunt to increase hate on the creature will help keep the creature off of your group and keep them attacking you.

If you have a dedicated tank in the group, I suggest you save taunt until either the tank dies or the creature agros (starts attacking) another group member.

Even with a dedicated tank, I would keep intervene on your main healer or support class to help reduce the damage taken by those characters.

Summary

The monk is a reliable class. Their Damage Per Second is not quite as good as some other classes, but with heals, and various other buffs they can keep up with almost any other class in the game.

Don't be a dumby, and play the game to have fun. If you start feeling burned out, take a break for a day or 2.
