Everquest 2 Berserker Overview - EQ2 Berserker Overview

Everquest 2 Berserker

Description

The Berserker is the annihilator of the tank classes. The Berserker is a very agressive and ferocious opponent and has abilities to hold aggro and damage multiple enemies at once. Because of their DPS they are oftentimes able to stand toe to toe with their Guardian counterparts.

Solo-Play

The DPS output of the Berserker allows him to solo as efficiently as the Shadowknight or the Paladin. They do not have the self-healing capabilities but with high armor, hitpoints, and damage output; they will oftentimes end their battles a lot earlier than the other Tank Classes calling for a shorter period of out-of-combat regeneration period and less overall downtime. The Berserker also has an advantage because of its area of effect attacks so that it can pull up to 10 enemies 2 levels lower, withstand the beat down, and kill them all around the same time. This helps leveling if you like to grind. Even though you can do pretty decent damage with any tank wielding a 2-handed weapon, you may want to consider taking advantage of the Berserker's ability to dual wield.

Group-Play

The Berserker should be welcome to most groups because groups oftentimes will not be able to tell the difference in tanking abilities between the Guardian and the Berserker, except that when a Berserker is in their group enemies tend to die faster. With its mitigation and hitpoints this makes the Berserker a very welcomed group member. The Berserker is probably the main substitute on a raid when a Guardian isn't present. If you box characters and can only do 2 or 3, I would recommend that you strongly consider choosing a Berserker as your tank, otherwise when you go to fight group bosses 3 boxing, you may find yourself running out of juice due to lack of dps. If you are only 2 boxing I would suggest you go with an SK or Pally and a healer like a shaman who can cast slow.

Summary

If you're looking for the highest DPS tank class, the Berserker is probably it (assuming you compare equally geared and achivement pointed tanks amongst each other). They are a fun class to play with their AoE attacks and insane dual weilding damage output. However, there is no replacement for a Guardian on raids so if you think you are going to level a Berserker to 70 fast to be the main tank on a raid, you may have another thing coming to you.
